| CLEARFIELD AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT - Next to Join CHALLENGER® Family |
|
On May 15, 2006, Clearfield Area School District (CASD) awarded Advanced Recycling Equipment, Inc. (ARE) the bid for the installation of its New Biomass Boiler Project.
This project is made possible through $600,000 in federal grant funds awarded to Clearfield Area School District through a Renewable Energy grant. This grant is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Bill signed into law by President Bush. Congressman John Peterson, representing Pennsylvania’s 5th District, and Bill Armstrong, Business Administrator for CASD, worked to secure the funds.
The proposed project will allow CASD to replace one of its Middle School’s aging oil-fired steam boiler with Advanced Recycling Equipment, Inc.’s CHALLENGER® CCUE410-S “Steam” Thermal Combustion System. CASD will leave the other existing steam boiler in place as a backup.
The system will consist of a CHALLENGER® CCUE410-S “Steam” Thermal Combustion Unit with Extended Combustion, Auto DeAsh and PCC Controls. Also included in the system is a 250HP Low Pressure Steam Boiler System with a Soot Blower Package, along with a 35 cubic yard Live Auger Bottom Storage with Transfer Augers to the Combustion Unit and Hydraulic Package for Walking Floor Trailers.
CASD is able to utilize the Middle School’s existing boiler room to house the new system, without making significant adaptations to the building.
Both Advanced Recycling Equipment, Inc. and Clearfield Area School District are excited for the progression of this project, with installation proposed to start in September of 2006.

| Latest CHALLENGER® Combustion System Provides Hot Water for Dry Kiln Operations |
|
In late May 2006, Advanced Recycling Equipment, Inc. commissioned another of its CHALLENGER® CCUE408-W "Hot Water" Thermal Combustion Systems.
This particular system burns processed hardwood and bark waste to provide hot water heat for dry kiln operations. The customer purchases its processed biomass fuel from local suppliers at a much lower cost than that of fossil fuels, providing a quicker return on investment.
The system is equipped with PCC Controls, Extended Combustion Zone and Auto DeAsh. Also included in the system is an Ethernet Connection that links to Advanced Recycling Equipment, Inc.'s corporate/service offices for immediate service and monitoring assistance.
With PCC Controls, the system will automatically stay within 3 to 5 degrees of the customer's desired temperature. Fuel feed motors, combustion fans and induced draft fan all run on variable frequency drives to ensure the proper mix of combustion air to fuel. The unit will adjust itself automatically according to its load demand.
CHALLENGER®'s advanced Auto DeAsh System eliminates downtime and labor costs by removing ash from the system automatically. It also makes for much safer working conditions.
The Extended Combustion Zone provides additional dwell time for the complete combustion of any carbon-based particulates and emissions before they are able to exit the system, making the process much cleaner, which reduces maintenance time and costs.
The combustion unit itself, like all CHALLENGER® Combustion Units, is equipped with high temperature cast refractory ceramic lining for longer life. This cast refractory/ceramic lining was designed to be completely modular, which makes for easy repair and replacement in the future.
A.R.E. is proud to include this system in its CHALLENGER® family. If you would like to know more about this particular system, or if you’d like to see how a similar system would address your needs, give us a call at 800-611-6599.
